Your First Appointment at Asheville Smiles
First time appointments with Dr. Kani Nicolls are extremely comprehensive. We ask that you arrange to spend approximately two hours with us, so we can get to know you and establish a baseline for your existing oral health conditions.
After completing your necessary paperwork, we will record two sets of digital x-rays to evaluate your oral and anatomical structures. If you have current x-rays from your previous dentist, we are happy to use those!
Next, we will complete a detailed oral cancer screening, periodontal screening, hard tissue exam, TMJ analysis, and occlusal evaluation. You will know more about your teeth than you ever wanted to! A series of oral photographs will also be taken and shared with you during the consultation. In addition to using x-rays to screen for disease, a laser Diagnodent device will take density readings of your enamel to detect areas of early tooth decay.
If you need treatment, we will review all our findings and recommendations with you. In most cases, you will be rescheduled with our hygienist to have your teeth cleaned at a subsequent appointment.
New Patient Forms
Because we value your time, and want to make sure your first appointment goes as smoothly as possible, we’ve made our intake forms available for download. Please feel free to download these forms, fill them out, and bring them into our office. Most people take about 15 minutes to fill out these forms. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you!
I’m Nervous About Seeing a Dentist
Dr. Kani is a rigorously trained, DOCS certified sedation dentist. Not only is her gentle demeanor enough to make you feel at ease, but we also provide oral sedation and nitrous oxide options to help you relax through any procedure. If we recommend any type of treatment, be sure to ask about this option.
